I gave him all the change I had in my pocket.

The past week I’ve seen the same old man digging through trash picking out glass for recycling, tonight he was on the main boulevard on newspapers selling bananas. I walked up to him and pointed at a batch, he charged me 15 Thai baht =(50 cents) for a good dozen … I gave him all the change I had in my pocket… not much (67 Thai Baht ) = 2.15$. He was confused, I assured him it was for him and closed his hand over the money. He smiled and looked at the money as his eyes became glossy and said thank you in Thai maybe 20 times. It’s not normal that I give change to beggars but he wasn’t begging, and was clearly working hard to get by as an old man. #perspective.
